Rotary Club of Calcutta Metro City presented the SAMMAN Awards recognizing excellence amongst media professionals. The club bestowed Lifetime achievement Samman to Dr Shoma A Chatterji for her contribution to film journalism and her columns as a film critic over the past 4 decades.
Outstanding Achievement Samman was presented to Rupak Saha (Sports & Literary Works), Pathik Guha (Science), Saumya Bandyopadhyay (Politics and news), Monideepa Banerjie (Television journalism) and Mir (for promotion of Radio Broadcast).
Significant Achievement Samman was presented to Jayanta Majumdar (Crime and investigation journalism) and Shampali Maulick (Lifestyle & Entertainment).
Director, Rotary International, Shekhar Mehta and Rtn Subhojit Roy, President, Rotary Club of Calcutta Metro city along with noted personalities Shri Chiranjit, MLA, Vikramjit (Tuki of Krosswindz), Arijit Dutta ( Priya Entertainments), Rita Bhimani, Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee presented the awards.
RID Shekhar Mehta spoke about the need for building greater awareness and sensibility of mammoth humanitarian work undertaken by Rotary International and thanked the media for being supportive and appreciative about Rotary’s role in making this a better world. He also commended the very vital role played by the media as a watch dog of the society and felt that media’s role shall assume even greater importance in the days to come.
Rtn Subhojit Roy, President, Rotary Club of Calcutta Metro City briefed the assembly about Samman awards in his welcome address. Rtn Shyamashree Sen, Chairperson of the organizing committee conducted the entire proceedings.
