Bollywood model-turned-actress Preeti Jhangiani is making her debut in a Bengali film Mistake. She addressed a crowded press conference in the city during a grand launch of the film. Mistake is produced by the south-based NPV Entertainment Private Limited and Pankaj Kumar Verma and is directed by another Bangalore-based S.K. who is also making his Bengali debut with this film. “It is a heroine-centric story where Preeti plays Riya, who comes to the city to join a MBA course and gets embroiled in a spidery web of lies and deceit within her social network of friends and with Neel (Vikram) who she falls in love with. She makes friends with the Dean’s daughter portrayed by Malabika Banerjee.
Her major ‘mistake’ is in getting sucked into the fast-paced life of the city she was never used to and setting up a fake marriage in order to get into a live-in relationship with Neel. “We have also stressed on the ‘mistakes’ parents make in not trying to understand the problems of their growing children, or not trying to bridge the gap that grows between them and their kids, on not developing the right lines of communication that inhibits the kids from opening up in front of their parents,” said the director who speaks fluent Bengali.
“I have just stepped into films and my first major role in Bappaditya Bandopadhyay’s Elar Char Adhyay has just been released. Mistake is another wonderful opportunity for me to explore my potential as an actor,” said the handsome Vikram Chatterjee who plays Preeti’s romantic interest in the film. The film will show how Riya’s life is destroyed completely through her own mistakes created out of strings of lies. But like Phoenix, she rises from the ashes of her own destruction and learns to open a fresh page of her life.
Preeti is thrilled about a wonderful role in her first Bengali film in the female lead. “I am grateful to the producers and to the director for having picked me to do this role. I loved the script the minute I heard it and agreed to do my first Bengali film,” she said. Malabika Banerjee gave a very good account of herself in Premangshu Roy’s Katakuti some months back is doing the role of Riya’s close friend in the film who has her own romantic interest portrayed by Saurav. Others in the cast are Dulal Lahiri, Kunal Padhy, Indrani Haldar, Biswajit Chakraborty and Barun Chatterjee. The music will be promising what with Indradeep Dasgupta composing the song tracks of this mainstream entertainment.
