Dr. Shoma A Chatterji is a freelance journalist, film scholar and author based in Kolkata. She has been in the field for 32 years. She won the National Award for Best Film Critic in 1991 and for Best Book on Cinema in 2003. She also won the Bengal Film Journalists' Best Critic Award in 1998, the Bharat Nirman Award in 2004 and the Laadly-UNFPA (Lifetime Achievement) award in 2010. She has authored 17 books of which three are short fiction collections, one is on urban history, five books on gender and eight books on cinema.She has won three fellowships of which two are on cinema and one is on television. She currently contributes on cinema, gender, media and human rights to four print media and eight online publications in India.
