Hirer Angti (1995) is the very first feature film directed by Rituparno Ghosh. The story is adopted form a children novel of Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay.
The story is plotted in Ratanlal babu’s house just before the Durga puja. Gandharba Kumar (Ayan Banerjee) came to Ratanlal babu’s house to claim the property as the whole property actually belonged to his father who was murdered in some encounter with the dacoits. Ratanlal babu gave him the word to hand it back to his son if he comes back within a certain time. Gandharba demanded that he was the heir of the whole property. This disrupted the festive mood of the family. But at the end of the story it was conveyed that Gandharba Kumar was a fraud.
