The story was plotted sometime in 1920’s. Ramesh was a student of law. He had an unexpressed affair with his friend’s sister Hemnalini who was belong to a Brahma family. But, Ramesh’s father somehow forced him to marry a village girl, Sushila. When they were returning by boat from the bride’s home after marriage, a sudden devastative storm destroyed the boat. After the storm ceased, Ramesh found himself on an islet with his newly married wife.
In course of time, Ramesh realized his mistake. The girl was not his Sushila. Her name is Kamala. She was in another boat in that stormy dusk. Ramesh didn’t convey anything to anyone, not even Kamala. Time passed. They returned to Kolkata. Ramesh remained in mentally restless state with a sexless ‘love’ with him. Afterwards, the story takes us through the complex curves of the built and the wreckage of various relationships and somehow brings the triumph of love.
