Srijit Mukherji directed Hemlock Society (HS), despite being a regional film has thrashed away Bollywood’s two much hyped film Teri Meri Kahani (TMK) and Gangs of Wasseypur (GoW) in the city box offices.
30 crore budget TMK and 18.4 crore budget GoW, which was also screened in London film festival failed to impress the Bengali audiences like Hemlock Society which had a very mere budget were appreciated both critically and commercially.
According to Shree Venkatesh Films , the producer of HS, on the first week of release on an average 80% more people watched it. They also said, “On Sunday (24th June) alone HS’s collection was 65% more than the other two”.
SVF’s claim was ratified by the owners of theater halls, who pulled down the shows of TMK and GoW for next week release Maximum and Spider Man 3D but decided to continue the shows of HS.
